Qining Shen worked in Prof. Dennis P. Lettenmaier’s research group at the University of California, Los Angeles as a visiting student from October 3, 2018 through September 29, 2019.
During her visit in UCLA, Qining performed research on the impact of urbanization on watershed hydrology and acquired information about water withdrawals and wastewater discharge in the Lehigh River Basin near Allentown, PA. She also modified and applied the Distributed Hydrology-Vegetation Model (DHSVM) to the Lehigh River basin. This work is expected to be submitted for journal publication within the next few months.
More broadly, Qining’s participation in cultural activities on campus and in the community is expected to enhance her cultural immersion and her deeper understanding of the local way of life, both within UCLA and the surrounding community.
